Because love lives on...

Ashes to Diamonds
The diamond has long been a symbol of eternal love.

The diamond, a gem world-renowned for its incredible strength and superlative beauty, is one of the most universally-treasured gemstones mankind has ever known. Although the diamond has had many uses in the ancient world, it is now most widely used in jewelry.

Since at least the 15th century A.D., the remarkable strength, brilliance and beauty of the diamond have made it a powerful symbol for nuptial engagements. The common connection made between everlasting love and the diamond's inherent permanence is very popular in most cultures around the world. Just like the everlasting diamond, true love between two people will also endure forever.

The Creation Process

In nature, diamonds are formed when carbon minerals are subjected to high pressure and high temperature environments within the earth's mantle. Diamond growth occurs over periods from  1 billion to 3.3 billion years. They are brought to the earth's surface from deep volcanic eruptions by magma, which then cools into igneous rocks known as kimberlites and lamproites.

Laboratory Memorial Diamonds
The graphite is placed into LifeGem diamond presses which replicate the awesome forces deep within the earth.

In the 1950s, a technology was first successfully developed to create diamonds by subjecting carbon to nearly the same conditions present in nature. The LifeGem process is identical to this, except the carbon source used to form the diamond in the LifeGem technique is the precious cremated remains or lock of hair from a loved one. The advanced and delicate LifeGem procedure has been specifically designed to capture almost all of the carbon in an 8-ounce (or less) portion of cremated ashes, or a lock of hair equal to that collected during a typical men's haircut. The patented LifeGem technology works in a special high-nitrogen, low oxygen atmosphere.

Once the carbon has been captured from the cremated remains or a lock of hair, the carbon is heated to nearly 5,500 degrees Fahrenheit. This process converts your loved one's carbon to an extremely pure form of graphite, which is needed for the creation phase. To create the diamond, the purified graphite is then placed inside a "diamond press," which replicates the awesome forces deep within the earth. The pressure needed to create the diamond is nearly 1,000,000 p.s.i. The diamond press machine has precision components designed to exert and maintain constant pressure on the individual octahedral diamond growth chamber. Inside the growth chamber, precisely calculated variables of heat and pressure cause the purified graphite to break down into individual atoms and crystallize into rough diamonds. At the optimal crystallization point, the carbon molecules bond together in a pattern found only in a diamond. Once fully grown, your LifeGem Memorial Diamond is then cut according to your specifications.

An Eternal, Certified Gem of Life

All LifeGem diamonds are individually inspected, graded and identified by world-renowned gemologists trained by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Other than being lab created, LifeGem diamonds are molecularly identical to naturally-occurring diamonds. They possess the same exact traits of a natural diamond, including hardness, brilliance, fire and luster. A LifeGem memorial diamond is truly a one-of-a-kind remembrance of your departed loved one. It is a combination of beauty and science and symbolizes the eternal love you've shared.
